Exploring Space and Curiosity

Themed classroom activities at Four Leaves International School Tokyo are designed to help children explore new ideas in ways that feel creative, engaging, and memorable. During this month’s space exploration theme, students transformed the classroom into an imaginative space-themed environment where curiosity and participation naturally became part of the learning experience within FLIST’s international preschool environment in Tokyo.

Throughout the lessons, children explored the planets through activities that helped them notice how different each one looked and where they belonged within the solar system. The classroom quickly filled with excitement as students eagerly shared facts they remembered, pointed out their favorite planets, and asked questions about space and astronauts. The theme also introduced children to the changing shapes of the moon and how it appears throughout the night sky, with many students enthusiastically connecting the lesson to what they had already noticed in the night sky outside the classroom.

One of the most engaging parts of the theme centered around astronauts and the idea of preparing for space travel. As children learned about astronaut suits and training, they also participated in concentration activities inspired by astronaut exercises, including a simple Stroop test activity designed to strengthen focus and attention. The excitement surrounding astronauts naturally inspired many students to imagine themselves traveling through space, making the classroom feel energetic, imaginative, and immersed in the theme.

Hands-on craft activities gave students opportunities to turn their ideas into creative projects of their own. Children created launchable rockets using paper cups and rubber bands, while colorful UFO crafts gave them opportunities for imagination and self-expression. Activities like these gave students opportunities to explore the theme more freely while turning their ideas into something creative and personal.

Within FLIST’s supportive classroom environment, themed activities become more than simple classroom projects. By creating experiences that feel active and engaging, children are encouraged to stay curious and emotionally engaged while building confidence in expressing their ideas and participating alongside others.

“Curiosity takes flight”

For young children, learning often becomes most meaningful when they are able to actively experience it for themselves. Through FLIST’s space exploration theme, students were able to explore science, creativity, and discovery in a way that felt exciting, imaginative, and naturally engaging throughout another memorable month of themed classes at Four Leaves International School Tokyo.
